Oceanside’s Domains of Livability

Oceanside’s Age-Friendly Action Plan is guided by the Domains of Livability framework, which supports independence, well-being, and meaningful community engagement. Through surveys, interviews, and Listening & Learning Sessions, residents shared their experiences and priorities, helping to shape a plan that reflects real community needs.

Grounded in Community Voices

One of the most meaningful aspects of Oceanside’s Age-Friendly Plan was its strong foundation in community input. Age-Friendly Ambassadors went beyond traditional outreach—knocking on doors, visiting neighborhoods, and connecting directly with residents to ensure as many voices as possible were heard. This plan is truly built by the community, for the community.

5-Year Age-Friendly Plan

afucover On March 25, 2026, the Oceanside City Council approved the Age-Friendly Community Action Plan, a major milestone in advancing a more inclusive, connected, and supportive community for residents of all ages. This achievement reflects nearly three years of collaborative work, beginning with Oceanside’s commitment to join the AARP Age-Friendly Network and guided by a dedicated Advisory Group and team of Age-Friendly Ambassadors who ensured broad and meaningful community engagement.

The SDSU Center for Excellence in Aging & Longevity (CEAL) was proud to serve as a key partner throughout this process, helping to facilitate community input, analyze data, and shape a plan grounded in the lived experiences and priorities of Oceanside residents. Through public meetings, outreach efforts, and direct engagement across neighborhoods, the plan reflects a truly community-driven vision for aging well.

Importantly, as part of adopting the plan, City Council also directed staff to move forward with reinstating the Senior Commission, one of the plan’s recommended action steps, further demonstrating the City’s commitment to sustained leadership, accountability, and ongoing community voice in advancing age-friendly initiatives.
