American Society on Aging

On March 26, 2024, CEAL staff will be presenting at the American Society on Aging Conference. Join us as we discuss our partnership with Determined Health to implement a scalable social connection program using an accessible, HIPPA-compliant technology platform. We will share strategies, best practices, and lessons learned for recruiting and training volunteers, outreach efforts in low socio-economic and under-represented communities, and collaboration with local non-profit organizations.

Best Practices in Aging

On March 14, 2023, CEAL and AARP co-sponsored an event with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance to share best practices in aging. San Diego was selected by the Alliance for their biennial Leadership Study Trip based on successful economic development initiatives in healthcare, education, business, transportation, technology, and housing.

22nd Annual St. Paul’s Legislative Breakfast

On February 24, 2023, the San Diego Senior Alliance co-hosted the 22nd annual St. Paul’s Legislative Breakfast. This yearly event serves as a platform to unite the San Diego aging community, recognize champions in aging, highlight achievements, and discuss ongoing priorities.

With over 100 attendees, including a significant presence of local, state, and federal elected officials, the event featured insightful presentations from notable figures such as Natalie Donlin-Zapella, Legislative Director at LeSar Development Consultants, and Meghan Rose, General Counsel and Chief Government Affairs Officer at LeadingAge California. The occasion also paid tribute to exemplary leaders in the field, namely Carol Hubbard, CEO of St. Paul’s PACE San Diego, and Michael McHale, President and CEO of St. Paul’s Senior Services.

Age Friendly University/CEAL Lecture Series

On October 13, 2022, SDSU held the first Age-Friendly University (AFU) lecture hosted by CEAL. Kim Gallo, County of San Diego’s Director of Aging & Independence Services spoke about the changing demographics and how San Diego State University can make a difference in the lives of older adults. On September 22, 2022, Steve Hornberger and Michelle Matter attended California for ALL Ages & Abilities: Day of Action in Sacramento. The event highlighted the work of the state’s Master Plan for Aging.

OSHER and CEAL Welcome Back Event

CEAL Healthnet Seniors Launch

A new partnership between CEAL and Wellcare By Health Net provides seniors with a holistic approach to navigating the current and emerging challenges faced by older adults and their families. These barriers include social determinants of health, social isolation, and the need to return to a focus on general health and wellness following the COVID-19 pandemic. Central to the partnership is the launch of the “Wellness Club,” an inclusive, community-based approach to inform, engage, empower, and inspire older adults.
