County of Madera Age-Friendly Listening Session

County of Madera Age-Friendly Listening Session

The CEAL team was in Madera County for five Listening and Learning Sessions with older adults, individuals living with disabilities, and caregivers. Over 150 residents provided open and honest feedback to help create a vision for Madera County to be an age- and disability-friendly community for all.

The Madera County Department of Social Services received a grant from the California Department of Aging to develop a Local Aging & Disability Action Plan (LADAP). To gain insights into strengths and areas needing improvement, we conducted a survey and used the results to create areas of focus for discussion. The LADAP aims to enhance the livability of the community for people of all ages and abilities, aligning with California’s Master Plan for Aging.

A huge thank you to the City of Madera Frank Bergon Center, the Chowchilla Senior Center, the Sierra Senior Center in Oakhurst, the Ranchos Hills Senior Center, and the County of Madera Department of Social Services for hosting events.

We are also deeply grateful to all the residents who participated and shared their valuable insights. Community voices are crucial in shaping the LADAP and reinforcing the County’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
